(Alice writes..)
Quatre Domaines ushered in the Fall with the first Frost Delay! Mrs. Daly appeared unaffected (probably the Edmonton blood), crushing the ball on the first tee and playing steady until the monster par five 10th. Reaching the green in two, and putting for Eagle, then for Birdie, and finally for Par – may have rattled Mrs. Daly slightly. A 30-foot birdie putt was drained on 14, but an ill-advised trip to the beach on 15 shook Mrs. Daly one more time. Papa Hicks showed early signs of the cold weather shivers, with a complete “wiff” on the third tee – but quickly warmed up to produce a few pars over the next 4 holes. No chip-in birdies like he demonstrated in the mini-TGA event at Vaudreuil on Thursday, but a solid 18 all the same. Alice took a little longer to warm up, and claimed to not be able to “feel” the shots due to frozen hands on the front nine. No excuses on the back nine, with seven pars and two bogeys – but since that 38 had to be paired with a 44, the sub-80 round continues to elude Alice this year. And finally Grand Par, who’s mentioned last as he arrived last – really last. The story is there were technical difficulties with a Blackberry alarm, causing him to miss the opening holes and join the group on the 5th tee. When he proceeded to open par-bogey-par, the group was convinced he was awake the whole time, sipping warm tea and avoiding the frosty conditions. The best news is that once he came out of hiding, we all saw his shadow, and must conclude there’s at least 6 weeks of golf weather remaining!
